Antarctic facts you might not know

Antarctica is bigger than Australia. It’s nearly twice as big.

It’s 4,826km from Hobart to Davis Station. 12-13 days by boat. A long way. That’s one thousand times the distance between my home and the nearest cafe.

There are no huskies in Antartica any more. Some of them have taken up a more static residence in the foyer of the Antarctic Division here in Hobart.

About Jesse Blackadder

Living at the easternmost tip of Australia on the caldera of an extinct volcano, Jesse Blackadder is a novelist, freelance writer and Doctor of Creative Arts. She is fascinated by landscapes, adventurous women and very cold places and has published three adult novels and three novels for children.

Dear Jesse… We will miss you very much at CB. Antarctica sounds so impossibly wilderness… I think I wll never get there, but I am very keen to follow your progress, and learn through your eyes and ears. You write so well, I know I’ll ‘see’ what you see.

Seriously, 1,000 times further away than your nearest cafe… Mine too!

May the waves stay manageable and the Journey, wonder-filled. Beaming lots of love your way. Linnie 🙂 xxxx
